WHAT IS THE AIR MOVEMENT AND HEAT LOSS ASSOCIATED WITH HAVING AN OPEN CHIMNEY IN YOUR HOME?

An open chimney is designed to extract air out of a house at a rate of 40 m3 per hour, every hour. The physical demonstration of this air movement is the draught that you can feel at your feet, or at your door, in the room where there is an open chimney. Where this really hurts you, however, is financially. For every hour your central heating is running between 60% – 80% of the generated heat is escaping up your chimney. This means that your boiler has to kick in more frequently to heat your whole house again solely because your heat is escaping up your chimney; therefore costing you significantly more to heat your home than it should. You wouldn’t turn on your central heating and leave all your bedroom windows open!

To easily illustrate this air movement in your room simply place a broadsheet of newspaper across your fireplace opening and watch it being sucked up. This is what is happening to your central heating.

We give a guarantee on installation chimney draught eliminated or your money back”.
